the lego movie

for weeks and weeks, mason has been asking almost daily to see the lego movie. our last attempt at taking everyone to the theater didn't work out very well because the movie was too "scary" (cars 2) and we had to leave. we just aren't willing to make that kind of an investment for a few hours at the movies. it is more economical to just wait and buy the dvd.

we pre-ordered the lego movie dvd a while ago, but i have been watching for it to be playing at the 'dollar' theater because mason asks about it so much. he is always saying things like, "when are we going to see the lego movie? because some kids in my class have already seen it." when he asked me again yesterday on our 'date,' i looked at the theater again and saw that it was playing!

today was the day! we took the kids to a late afternoon showing and didn't tell them where we were going until we got there. i should have gotten a video because they gave a better reaction about being there to see the lego movie than they were when we rolled into disney world!

they were just so excited! and they were glued to the screen the second we sat down. we could barely get them to pass the popcorn. manning made it about halfway through the movie before he started checking out the spring action seat and running up and down our row of seats a little. he was actually very quiet the whole time. after climbing on the seats for a while he sat on my lap and feel asleep. maddux had already fallen asleep, but he did wake up again towards the end and was, very thankfully, not upset that he had missed some of the movie.

the review was that the movie was "awesome!" they said that there were a few 'scary' parts and want to see it again.

thank you 'dollar' theater for a fun family afternoon! love.

all that dirt and it is right next door...

my date with mason

after soccer and lunch, mason and i went on a day date. the plan was to work on plans for his birthday party. mason is turning five this year, so he gets a party (we don't do them for every birthday). he is pretty excited about it.

he and i went out for ice cream and discussed what he wanted to do for his birthday party, who to invite, etc. he thought that daddy was going to be pretty surprised to see how much there was to do for the party (i was taking notes on a little notepad). after ice cream, we went out to find invitations and scout out options for balloons, party favors, games, etc.

my absolute favorite part of our date was that mason had me all to himself and would not let go of my hand for even a moment. i had to ask him to let go when i needed both hands to do something. i just love this little guy so much! love.

mason's first goal!

today, mason scored his first goal! he was so proud of himself too. he came running over with both hands above his head to ask me if i saw him score a goal. mason does that when he plays soccer, he comes over to the sideline after every play to ask if i saw it or to tell me what happened. he really loves playing soccer but hasn't found his competitive or aggressive edge yet (not like he has when playing outside with his siblings). this picture was after he came over to ask if i saw his goal for the third time. we are so proud of our big guy! love.

soccer photos

so, it looks like we might need to work on 'natural' smiles... even though our kids give some crazy "smiles" to professional photographers, i just love them! (i would normally work to not have the 'flash' on the pictures, but it actually worked for these to make the league info difficult to read and saved me a step or two.)

mason has just loved playing soccer this season. he smiles the entire time he is on the field and is a great sport. we can't wait for the fall when maddux will be on the team too! love.

joust-boxing

sometimes i wonder about our kids... tonight they took the oven mitts and each wore one. then with each starting at one end of the hallway, they ran towards each other with arms outstretched until they collided (the jousting part) before changing to punching each other with the oven mitted hand. there were a few tear shed, but mostly there was a lot of laughter. love.

ah, the fresh air

there is just something about fresh air that seems to bring on a nap. manning loves riding around with the windows down. love.
