audio books

maddux and manning have gotten really into audio books. they love that they can 'read' even when no one can read to them. they really like the ones with songs too. we have had fun checking out the library's large selection. love.

great grandma r. had quilts made for all of the kids and papa and nana brought the boys theirs today (they drove our way after their visit in indiana).

and then papa finished them off with a bed time story. love.

while madelyn was at her playdate, the boys and i ran errands and made a trip to the library. they have discovered that there are themed sections and the boys were in this row chatting and browsing for 15 minutes on their own. it just fills my heart. love.

manning discovers mini-books

these books are always laying around and manning has looked at them before, but it is like he has noticed them for the first time this week. and is obsessed. here he is doing a little quiet 'reading' by himself. love.

manning has a favorite book (well he has a handful that he goes to first, but this one shows up most often lately), this story book bible. he carries it around with him, including to bed, and will sit and listen to the entire thing (none of the other kids would because it has many more words than pictures).  he was 'reading' it out loud today so i snapped a few pictures (yes, it just occurred to me that a video would have been better). love.

books are a very special part of our everyday life around here, but i have noticed that the boys always sit in the same spot on the couch to read books together. love.

when manning turned one, his book loving switch flipped! he was just sitting and 'reading' books today. i thought it was too cute how he had surrounded himself with books to 'read'. he is very selective when he decides what to read - more so than the others. love.

i started reading to manning fairly regularly a few weeks ago.  he loves it!  he often smiles, giggles and gasps in delighted surprise when i turn the pages.  today i held up a touch and feel book for him while he sat in the bumbo chair.  this was his first time 'feeling' a book like this and he didn't know what to think at first.  he is so animated and quite chatty.  we can't wait to see what his personality will be.  we love this little happy guy (but remember when i used to only post about his crying?).  i love the last picture here because you can see all three of his teeth.  love.
