one of maddux' preschool buddies asked for a trip to the zoo with him as part of her countdown to kindergarten - and manning got (had) to come too.
it was a hot day, but we still had a great time. these two are really going to miss being in class together. they will meet up again for middle school. love.
it was a gorgeous afternoon to have a stroll down main street for the annual festival. the kids were hooked up with bags and sunglasses from the library and lots of other treats as we enjoyed our afternoon and ran into lots of friends we haven't seen all summer. love.
i have been feeling sort of bummed to not make it to a beach (any beach) this year. but then a friend of manning's invited us to join us at her grandparents' lake house about an hour away. yay!
it was such a relaxing way to spend the day. the kids all had a blast and the moms were able to chat and sun.
maddux and his best pre-school buddy who will go to a different school this year.
it's not anything close to the ocean but the wake from the boats made little 'waves' and i got to burry my toes in the sand. love.
once again, super hero camp was a huge hit with the boys! we love having this fun little camp where they can dress up, hear stories, make crafts and (their favorite part) complete obstacle courses.
i get lots more help with meals in the summer time. this is one of the boys' favorite things to help with - shucking corn. they wish we had it every night. love.
summer break equals reading books around here so off to the library we went first thing this morning!
we got all four kids signed up for their reading program and as a bonus, i got myself signed up for their adult program too. i even got a bonus chocolate bar - score!
since we were out (unexpectedly due to a call from madelyn's school that she had left her yearbook in her locker that we needed to come pick up today instead of staying at home in our jammies all day), we also went to the christian bookstore to sign up for their reading program.
but the day wasn't a complete loss, we broke out the slip-n-slide and sprinkler when we got home. school let out a little earlier this year and the pool won't open until this weekend.
summer is off to a great start around here! although, i fear that i might have set the bar a little high for how fun this summer will be. love.
we had to run a few errands today (a welcome back gift for mason's principal from the pto) and had lunch out. i sure did have some handsome company! and i even had a few compliments on their behavior (see my earlier post about the impact of a kind word from a stranger).
as a treat for mason's last day, we stopped to get some perler beads. the kids have been asking for them all summer but i have been hesitant because i can just see them EVERYWHERE. but with enough coupons to get them all at a discount, we left with three sets.
maddux asked if i could see his eyes "popping out."
mason went with a monster set, maddux a race car set and manning a "doggie" set. they were very excited - until they weren't. about five minutes later. mommy had a great time making perler patterns for them and ironing everything together. they were very happy with the finished products though.
mason is SO, SO, SO excited to go to school. he wants to just ride the bus, but we are insisting on driving him for his very first day of kindergarten. love.
