focused boy

where mason is the most likely to build something creative, maddux is his mommy's boy by being the most likely to follow the directions. he gets himself turned around every now and then, but he will see it through to the end and often builds things on his own. he is pretty good at building his own creations too. love.

lego sandcastle

every time we get the lego club jr. magazine, mason quickly finds the contest and asks to enter. this month the task was to build a sandcastle, but our kids had to build an entire scene. it wasn't exactly what the contest called for, but i was impressed with their creativity. i really liked how they removed the legs off of their mini figures to make it look like they were swimming. love.

bookends

this morning the kids put together and painted four pairs of bookends. they love building whatever is offered. it is a little stressful to paint in this little room at home depot. matt puts it like this, "it is never as fun as you think it is going to be." well, at least not for the two of us. love.

open gym

the boys and i go to open gym after swimming lessons every week, but we have never attempted to go after dinner until tonight. let's just say that it was a very different experience - and a little stressful. the kids had a fantastic time. i was just waiting for one of them to get trampled but the big guys would jump around our kids when they chased after their runaway balls. really, it was almost sweet.

after about 20 minutes, we decided to go give the track a try instead. happily, that was all but empty and the kids ran themselves until they just couldn't any more. they were trying to lap dad - or at least get away from dad (i am not a threat since i am not supposed to run at all and just walk). it was actually a pretty nice evening and i see this becoming part of our routine. love.

silly shoe spirit day

we both knew it was "silly shoe" spirit day today, but forgot to decorate her shoes last night. oops! but we were both pretty pleased with what we threw together this morning.

unfortunately, the paper wings were not practical and did not survive the day. love.
