spring break - the drive home

we cleaned up and hit the road this morning. i had made up a bunch of pb&j sandwiches so we stopped at some picnic tables to eat and stretch our legs with a game of tag. maybe it is because we live in the cloudiest place in the country now, but i could not get over the cloudless sunny days we had for this trip! it was colder than is desirable, but the sunshine was amazing.

there was a lot of driving on this trip and the kids were awesome. i had doodle books for the oldest two (who can read or almost read) and new books and workbooks for the littles. we did watch a few movies, but we also listened to the lion, the witch, and the wardrobe. i had checked it out from the library and it was a huge hit! (we have read some of the chronicles together too.)
maddux wanted to hold the basketball. we never even played with it.
and i have to give a shout-out to these cards, big machines to spot, that we checked out from the library. it was a deck of cards with different sorts of trucks to 'spot.' maddux played with it on the way there and on the way home. he really, really liked it and i am thinking of buying them for future trips.

we were home in time to play baseball in the front yard. such a wonderful family trip! love.

Thanks for the tip on the cards. I'm sure Knox would love them. Though he would likely SHOUT each find. We have road-trip thoughts swirling through our heads right now. NC in July and MAYBE BIG, GIANT MAYBE Illinois in September. We're going to see how July goes first :)
