holiday shoppes

for the first time ever, i was able to help at the holiday shoppe! usually i just manage the scheduling of volunteers and hear about how much fun it is, but this year i get to help because the littles are both in preschool. i was more than a little excited. the items were very similar at madelyn's and mason's schools but the shopping was very different. at mason's school most of the kids need help reading, adding and shopping. at madelyn's school, the volunteers are just function as shopping carts and price-check machines.

i only wish that i could have included notes with each of the gifts relaying the reasons for the selection (like the boy who was super confident that his mom would LOVE some sophia the first stickers - there was no leading him in a different direction).

it is so nice to get to meet other parents and give some of my time to the schools. love.

I have mixed feelings about these places. I love that kids get to select on their own, but (here in FM) the prices are higher to allow it to be a fundraiser and it adds to the clutter we already have so much of. :(

Agreed. At Mason's school it is provided more as a service than as a fundraiser (not that there aren't modest profits). In fact, most of the kids shopped at the $.25 and $.50 tables. I never even saw what was on the $5 table (the highest priced items). The gifts aren't always great, but the kids LOVE it so much.
