on the road

after our successful road trip to kansas at the beginning of june we were feeling pretty good about our shorter drive to indiana for the weekend. we even left the 'emergency potty' at home this time.

we left once everyone was awake on saturday morning and went straight to einstein brothers for bagels (and coffee). it was weird to not have to hunt for a parking spot on a saturday morning but we were just that early. apparently, we were not early enough to get a highchair for mason.

i was trying not to stare but there are only two highchairs and one of them was being used by a child that was almost madelyn's age. so mason had to just sit in a chair for the first time. i was slightly nervous because we were sitting at a table that was near the tile floor, but he barely moved. mason is really serious when he eats and was still waking up so there was no need to have worried at all. where i was first trying not to stare, by the end i was trying not to give dirty looks. two guys were using both highchairs and the younger girl (still older than mason) didn't sit in hers for the majority of the time! one of the guys was just helping her walk up and down the restaurant while the highchair sat empty. and i know that he noticed that we could have used the chair. oh well. at least we were able to enjoy our breakfast.

we weren't on the road very long before we made our first stop - ikea. they were having a big holiday sale and we were planning on picking up a twin bed and dresser for mason to match madelyn's. we aren't going to move him to the twin bed just yet, but it was on our way so we thought that we would stop. we also picked up a few other things because it is one of our favorite stores. we ate a second breakfast/lunch of eggs, bacon, french toast, sweedish pancakes, breakfast potatoes, oj, and coffee for under $7 while we were there. everything is so affordable at ikea! and then we had to hit the road because we were meeting great grandma for dinner and realized that we would be loosing an hour.

thankfully, traffic wasn't too bad except for one or two tolls that were very backed up leaving chicago and we were able to get to indiana in plenty of time for dinner. we had a short visit with great grandma and then headed over to uncle dennis and aunt joy's house were we would be staying for the weekend at their generous offer (we were just going to get a hotel). love.

How rude. High chair hoggers. ha- second meal at iKEA- it seems everyone's eating for two :) How did you fit all of that furniture in the van? Which way did you decide to configure the rooms?
