jack-o-lanterns

i love carving jack-o-lanterns.  so to admit that there just wouldn't be time this year was a little sad for me.  but i couldn't go without anything, right?  so about two months ago i started collecting jars - at least when i remembered.  every time we finished some food item in a glass jar, i would rinse it out and set it to the side.  the kids and i had already bought orange paint and sponge brushes for our 'pumpkins' and we already had painter's tape.

i cut out whatever shape (and teeth count) the kids wanted out of the painter's tape and then they stuck them on and painted the jars.  once everything was dry we peeled off the tape for the candle light to shine through.  if we had done them more than a few hours before trick-or-treating, i would have done more than one coat of paint.

i think we ended up with seven or eight jars. they didn't turn out half bad either.  madelyn really loved the project.  i will show you the finished arrangement on the front porch in the next post.  love.

I LOVE this idea. Was it one you had on your own? Might see this happening down here next year. What kind of paint did you use? But, how was it less time consuming than carving a pumpkin?
