we went out to a steak dinner to celebrate uncle derek's birthday. madelyn was excited to go to dinner and even more excited when i pointed out that her sunglasses were the same pink as her dress. her poses just crack me up!
maddux took a little nap on the way to the restaurant and his little face was too sweet not to take a picture.
we had to wait a little bit when we got there so that they could set up a table for our large group. i, of course, thought that we needed some more pictures...

after a yummy dinner we went back to papa and nana's for presents and cake. the kids had made uncle derek pictures before we left home and madelyn has been itching to give them to him ever since we had gotten there. i should have taken a picture of what she wrote because she got lost in the repeating "e"s in his name and wrote "happy birthday uncle dek". when i pointed out her error she said, "it's okay. i will just tell him that i forgot a few letters." and she did. i think he liked it anyway. mason and maddux had made him drawings too.
i think madelyn and mason were more excited about uncle derek's birthday than uncle derek! (or maybe it was just the ice cream cake...)
hopefully uncle derek enjoyed his day because we enjoy uncle derek! love.
