christmas tree preview gala

last week, we decided that we would go to the christmas tree preview gala instead of a personal christmas party we had a already reserved a babysitter for that was on the same night. this was a really good opportunity for matt at work and we had never been to this fundraiser. we go to see the trees every year on thanksgiving though. it did not, however, occur to me that i had one week to get something together to wear! i have a lot of formal wear from the years of fundraisers we have needed to attend but this one was "cocktail" and i don't have much of anything that fits into this category.  so i have been racing out to try and shop by myself late at night before the stores close while i have a few hours without kids. (i had a wonderful experience at white house | black market - sort of "pretty woman" in the way they pulled everything in my size and showed me how to style each one from head to toe - even how to style my hair for the dress. unfortunately, matt didn't love the dress i ended up with and it was too expensive to keep since i wasn't totally in love either.) in a desperate move, i took the boys with me to a large accessory store to try and find a statement necklace to but with a simple black dress i have had since college.

the ladies in the store were thoroughly amused by my shopping for accessories with three boys and by how vocal they were with their opinions. maddux actually broke down in tears when i did not select his top choice. i explained that it was just too fancy for what i was wearing. he was just very disappointed. they did enjoy shopping though and did a great job at not destroying the place. i explained to the cashier that they have an older sister who has them very well acquainted with all things rhinestoned and princess-y.
and so begins 'party' season for us. matt was running very late getting home, but i made him hold off on his coat so that the babysitter could snap a quick picture of us dressed up. it is blurry, but rare enough that i am just happy to have one.

the gala was great and the food was wonderful! the dessert buffet is so large that some people purchase dessert only tickets! i love seeing all of the trees each year. as we predicted, there were a lot of "frozen" trees. this display by joann's fabrics even had a costumed elsa with it! i was surprised that there were no lego movie trees though.

we didn't take pictures of the trees since we will be back with the kids on thanksgiving. i am very thankful for the night out with my hubbie. love.
