race training

the school district is putting on a 5k and 1 mile 'fun run' as a fundraiser for the elementary schools and middle school. as preparation, they put on a few family fitness days at a local park and the first one was this afternoon. and it was a perfect day for it!

the kids all sign in and then you can participate in an obstacle course by a local speed training school and/or take a walk/run around the park's track/trail. and, of course, play on the playground.

there was a decent line for the obstacle course and they took the kids through one at a time so that they could time them. they gave each kid a card with their time to bring back next time to see if they are faster. the kids loved it! i think it helped a little that they were also given a frisbee when they were done (at least that is what motivated maddux to participate).

here are videos of each of the three bigs participating:

here were their times:

madelyn - 56 seconds
maddux - 1:01
mason - 1:06

in mason's defense, he did go first and wasn't all that sure about what to do.

we did a half lap around the park. matt and the bigs ran most of the way and manning and i brought up the rear walking. we would have kept going but mason cut through some mud that pulled his shoe off and left him with mud splatter everywhere and a muddy sock. matt wasn't too disappointed to leave early since we were missing the final round of the masters.

That's really great for the kids and they really seemed to enjoy it.
