animal kingdom

up, dressed and fueling up for day two - animal kingdom. we weren't in as big of a hurry to get over to the park today since we were exhausted, needed to pack up and our first fast pass wasn't until 11:20am. all of the kids were dropped off in big pop and grandma's room for breakfast while the grown-ups carted everything out to the cars for the ride home. nothing like florida to make you sweat through your clothes by 9am. today was definitely going to be a hot one.

while we waited with the kids, ford was playing one of wyatt's favorite games. since it involved 'hitting' and falling down, maddux just had to give it a try! aunt abby told us that this game was what they were playing one of the first times wyatt smiled having fun. he did give maddux a few half smiles which were great to see. i think maddux could have played this game all day, but we had another theme park to conquer!

we decided to take our group picture at the hotel so that we wouldn't all be sweaty. what i didn't count on was that going from air conditioning to florida humidity would steam up the camera lens! oops!

we were sweating, like soaking through our shirts, before we even got to the safari ride. there was a long line in the hot sun even though we had a fast pass. if the animals cross the path, the ride stops.

we filled the whole car. it was awesome! we saw baby elephants playing in the water, my favorite part, and baby giraffes.

there are two baby giraffes in the middle/left

a white rhino - called "white" because the english didn't understand the germans who were using the word for "wide"

a few of our monkeys...

planning our next stop
luke really is an easy going kid, he let everyone take a turn holding him while we waited for lunch.

ford fought a ketchup packet, and it won. he got it all over my foot and leg too.

during a bathroom break, manning found a yellow lion (aka simba). he really wanted it, but we didn't want to carry it all day and he had already acquired several stuffed animals on this trip. it just about broke my heart when he gave it a kiss good-bye.
waiting in line was actually great for visiting and taking pictures - we spent a lot of time waiting in line.

standing by the one cooling fan

the lion king show's air conditioning felt SO good...

manning fell asleep the second the show started.
our next stop was the river rapids. everyone was tall enough to ride, but after waiting for almost an hour, manning wanted nothing to do with it. i had to hold him in his seat with my hand over the buckle. it did not help that he was soaked on the ride. rides had not gone all that well for manning at disney.
our wet family - manning is holding my hand behind maddux.
and then it was time to part ways. saying good-byes made us realize there were pictures that we hadn't taken. so even though we were totally gross, we snapped away.

first there was a "mason sandwich" and then we ended up with a picture of my brothers with my sons - which i love.

we tried one more time for all of the cousins to be in a single picture, but we failed again.  oh well. everyone is in at least one picture from the past two days.
most of the family went to ride the mount kilimanjaro roller coaster, but even our roller coaster king, maddux, wanted to go a little more low key. we went over to the bugs life 4d movie. it was pretty cool. mason wouldn't even put his feet down when it was over because of all the 'bugs' he felt go under his seat (it was pretty creepy).

a few more family pictures with the central tree. then the lightning came and our day was over. we were ready!

we had to swing back by the hotel to pick up a bag we had checked to keep it from cooking in the car.  madelyn and manning pretended to swim with nemo while daddy got our bag.

on the road, again... we stopped for dinner in our stinky clothes around lakeland. the kids were reenergized. the restaurant was pretty cold, especially after being so hot for so long, the kids pulled their arms into their shirts for warmth. madelyn was inspired and told me that she was a baby t-rex.

tonight we sleep at big pop and grandmas! love.
