uncle rob and aunt blake

we were delighted to find some time in our visit to drive to topeka and visit my uncle rob and aunt blake. really, they were the ones who found time for us since we were visiting during the school year, during the week.

the kids were able to visit aunt blake at school and have a private art lesson! so special. she showed them a few different options and they chose to draw ice cream cones.

aunt blake teaches a wide age range of students and we were inspired by lots of projects around the room to try when we got home. i had totally forgotten about these paper roll projects from my own childhood.

their first finished ice cream project.

how ingenious are these? cans wrapped with glued strings to make a pencil cup.

both finished projects - one for us and one for papa and nana.
after playing on the playground for a while we were treated to lunch at jason's deli. surprisingly, we have never been there as a family (matt and i went on a trip to florida very early in our marriage). it was super yummy and the kids loved the 'free' ice cream too!

i just love that we get this chance to visit. love.
