happy (early) anniversary

tomorrow is the 12th anniversary of the day i married my best friend.  it is also the 3rd anniversary of the birth of our second son, maddux.  so our anniversary is celebrated on another day.  we had planned on going to dinner yesterday but when matt came home he told me to pack a bag too.  apparently, he emailed my mom several weeks ago to ask her to watch the kids while we went away over night. (she was already flying up from florida for a visit.)

we stayed at a hotel that had the most amazing view of some falls.  the noise was tremendous outside between the falls, the interstate (running parallel behind the trees) and train tracks just beyond that, but the room was quite quiet (except for the train whistle on occasion).

we had a very yummy (and very non-vegan) dinner out.  i must have been having a really great face day yesterday because the waiter (obviously much younger than us) said that we must be celebrating because i was "positively glowing" and earlier in the day one of mason's classmates asked his mom if i was mason's sister!  yes, i was having a pretty stellar day!

and then we did what every couple does to celebrate a night away from their children - we went shopping for our children!  it is actually nice to be able to shop together for christmas gifts in a store (while holding hands, of course) instead of always having to do it online.

a restful night's sleep later and we had an extremely tasty (and largely non-vegan) breakfast at the restaurant that hangs over the falls (it is the beige part sticking out behind matt's head in the picture below).  we were saying that it would have been gorgeous last week before all the leaves fell.

it was such a wonderful surprise to get so much one on one time with my love.  happy anniversary!!  love.
