our budding cook

i mentioned that madelyn was gifted a junior cookbook at the mother/daughter tea at the library last weekend. well, she loves that book and has been planning what to make every day. i told her that she could pick something to make for dinner on friday night. she didn't even need to review the cookbook - she was making "game day goulash". i picked up the ingredients for her and this afternoon we got to work. she even wore her apron that nana and papa gave her for christmas this year. i was mainly around for safety and tutorials for how to use the different appliances and knives safely and effectively. madelyn used the food processor to shred carrots, a knife to chop onion, red bell pepper and cut the ends off the carrots.  she prepared everything and read the recipe. she even served everyone!

the "game day goulash" was delicious and everyone enjoyed it. madelyn was very proud of herself.

we are thinking that this might be a weekly occurrence. it might be nice to get one night a week off from planning and cooking! love.

What exactly is goolash? I'm very impressed that she did it all herself. I would love to have a cooking helper (in addition to Jon) - like you said, especially with the planning part.

i would describe it as super thick spaghetti sauce with chopped veggies. it is actually thickened with some flour and has paprika in it. just the name has always sounded gross to me so i have never had it before. it was really tasty.
