first day of school

matt and i are still trying to get caught up on our sleep.  unfortunately, we chose to sleep in on monday morning.  we were both planning on getting up at 6am, but i guess we both 'snoozed' instead.  we woke up when madelyn and mason came in and announced that "the sun was on" which means it was at least 7am.  turns out it was almost 7:30!  matt jumped up and got dressed while i hurried to the kitchen to make his coffee and get the kids fed.  i wanted to leave to take madelyn to school a little after 8am since i needed to hand in all her paperwork and speak with the director.

yes, i found madelyn a preschool!  i had given up on finding her one because i wasn't in love with any of the others we had visited and didn't hear back from a church preschool that i thought sounded pretty good.  but then i got a call the friday before we left to go to wisconsin from the church preschool.  i guess the director had been out of town and that was why it took so long for her to return my call.  the kids and i visited on monday morning and i agreed on the spot to enroll her.

we spent about an hour at the school and they actually invited madelyn to participate in the class - which i liked.  i was hoping to find a longer day, but the 9 - 11:30 schedule should work out pretty well.  the school is about 5 minutes from our apartment and they also provide before and after care if needed - even at the last minute - which is a bonus.  and i liked that it was a church preschool where she will learn bible stories, pray, and even go to chapel once a week.

we hustled off to school (which i why i don't have a 'first day of school' picture of her).  she was really excited to use her new pink backpack and go to school.  she did say on the ride that she might cry when i left and told me that the teacher said parents can come sometimes.  i told her that we would stay for a little while.  she was fine by the time i was finished speaking with the director.  and off i went to take the boys home and get them snacks.
mason giving a monster roar (to match his shirt) at snack time.
i was able to do a few loads of laundry, work a little, and play with mason before heading back to pick her up from school.  another selling point of this school is that they do curbside drop off and pick up.  i have a number card specific to madelyn that i put in my window and her teacher will come get her or bring her out to me so that i don't have to haul the other two in each time.

madelyn was bouncing out all smiles with her teacher.  there were no tears and the teacher said that she had a great day.  madelyn was most excited about praying during school!  she said that they prayed about "lots of stuff".  the teacher gave me a copy of the prayers they say during school (opening, snack, and closing prayers) - again, something i really liked about the school.  it sounded like she had a really great day and really liked being in school again.  she told me that she "loves preschool".

maddux and madelyn hanging out after school.  madelyn was holding his hand and telling him about her day before i got the camera.

we ate lunch right after school and both kids were pretty tired.  only mason (and maddux) napped though.  i continued on my mission to get us settled back in the apartment.  the main focus has been the loads and loads of laundry.  there are also a few more boxes to unpack and a few things that need to be taken over to the storage units.

i got a new cookbook at sams over the weekend.  after using my favorite one almost every night for almost three years, i was ready for some new meal options.  the kids helped me with dinner preparation that night.  i have been trying to let mason help in the kitchen more now that he is getting a little older.  they are both watching our chocolate desert blend in the picture.

i almost feel back to normal.  i think one more weekend of getting myself organized and i will be in our new state of "normal" - i think.  love.

Phew. Breathe. You've done an amazing job with all this moving/getting settled. And at warp speed! So happy Madelyn loves her school. It sounds a lot like Lorelai's set up. Love the church influence. Do they have a 4-yr-old program for her next year, too?
Lorelai goes 8:30 (if I get there on time) to 12:30. A little longer than Madelyn's but not all day. I like that. Its enough time to get a few things done, be less one kid - so alone time with the other(s), and Lorelai LOVES school, so we all win. How many days will she go? Lorelai only goes 3.
