mason at home

just like maddux, i was taking a few pictures of mason and thought that i would add a few notes about him too.  he has decided that this week is going to be a talking week - i am hoping that it is also going to be a potty training week...

now mason is a clear communicator and is very vocal.  he 'talks' to everyone he meets and really enjoys acting as a tour guide when we are at the house or in stores with lots of gestures and a very serious tone.  but yesterday and today he added some more real words.  yesterday was "poop" and "hot".  today was "mommy" (as opposed to "ma-ma"), "me" (when we were identifying people in pictures), and "ouch".  the real difference is that you can see him trying to say the word correctly and that it comes out clearly.  he does speak very clearly when he says a real word.

i have always said that mason is way smarter than we know (because he can't express himself fully).  i was changing his diaper today and he pointed at his shirt and said "ball" (i actually think he said "basketball" but he wouldn't say it again and i wasn't really listening closely enough to proclaim that it is what he said).  then he pointed at my shirt (from the blood drive - i think junior year - at fmhs) and said "o".  he had indeed pointed to an "o" on my shirt.  we were talking about it being a circle just like the ball on his shirt and he made a 'circle' with his hands.  then when we were reading books at nap time and mason pointed out the "o" at the beginning of a paragraph.  he was also able to point out and say "t"!

i really look forward to hearing what he has to say about everything!

how can you not love this face?!

his picture with "bunny-bear".

madelyn was laying in our bed with him but she refused to have her picture taken.
madelyn likes to look at older pictures and today mason joined us.  when i would tell him that it was a picture of madelyn when she was his age, he would say "no".  and then i would show him a picture of him at 6-months and he woulds say "no".  when we looked at pictures of maddux as a newborn he was accepting of who everyone was because they look pretty close to how they look today.  it was pretty funny to see how he couldn't imagine them looking any different.

it has occurred to me that mason can go without a nap if we need him to do so.  now, this might seem like a bad thing - as was my first reaction - but this could actually be a good thing.  now madelyn will have some company during 'nap time' instead of having to rely on me.  i try to use that time for working.  it was right about this age that madelyn started to skip a nap here and there too.  we will see.

mason is still the best eater!  he will eat practically anything.  he doesn't care how it is spiced which is nice.  and he loves meat!  where madelyn would eat the breading off and leave the meat, mason eats his meat first and then might eat the breading.  where madelyn is a huge lunch eater, mason likes his big meal for dinner.

we just love his little smile and laugh.  he is our snugly kid for sure.  love.
