meet lucy

one of the benefits of madelyn's choices to not take care of her toys is that her imagination is almost the only thing she has to play with anymore. she has always had a pretty great imagination, but it has become more of a constant in our day lately. there is usually a puppy under her chair at meals, alligators to hide from, and snakes in the car. and for the first time on wednesday morning while we were heading to school, there was someone with a name.

first of all, lucy is a boy. lucy is almost a constant companion these days. he is a tiny, red snake (he started out as a green snake). madelyn carries him around in the palm of her hand; he is tiny so she carries him in a closed fist. the surprising thing is that she doesn't forget that she is carrying him around in her fist. she does most things one handed to protect lucy. she puts him down when she goes to the bathroom or washes her hands and then picks him up again when she is finished.

apparently lucy gets hungry and needs his own plate of food. thankfully he will also share with madelyn so there isn't a lot of waste. love.
