we have food shopping plans for saturday morning, but then daddy remembered that it was home depot saturday! madelyn was super excited to put on her apron and go build something at home depot. i was folding an orange shirt this week while doing laundry and madelyn asked me if that was my home depot shirt. it was home depot orange with black lettering, but it was my intramural "official" shirt from college.
the picture shows her joy on our way. (she holds the magnadoodles but doesn't use them in the car - this week.) she had a slight fever and cough on friday, but seemed to be doing much better on saturday morning. friday she was pretty pitiful, but i think that she was milking it a little. we have been in this vicious cycle of not sleeping at night because she is tired and napping during the day. it will be easy to resolve once she is feeling normal again.
mason was pretty happy to be at home depot too. it was actually a fairly warm day (40) and it was really nice to be outside in the sunshine. he was smiling and bopping every time we were outside. we were going to go to the zoo, but it was family free day on the first nice weekend in months and we didn't want to brave the crowds. although home depot was really crowded! we had a hard time finding table space to build her rain gauge.
madelyn was probably the most involved throughout the project as she has been any other time. she followed along on the instructions and didn't get too distracted by the other kids. the 'table' is still a little too high for her to hammer comfortably so daddy put the project on the floor so that she could reach above it and swing away. i must say that she is really good with a hammer! she also got to use a screwdriver for the first time at home depot. i was impressed with her skills there as well. she would do a full turn to the right and then just a quarter turn back to the left. it wasn't the most efficient technique but she made definite progress.
after all our errands madelyn fell asleep before church and woke up in her pathetic temperament again. since she had a fever within the past 24 hours we kept her with us instead of going into her class. she did a wonderful job being quiet. she colored and ate a snack (provided by the church - they feed us well on saturday nights). she did get a little whinny towards the end because we went to the bathroom and she realized that she was missing out on her class (she could see mason's class and pointed it out). she did do her whining as a whisper in my ear so i couldn't be too upset.
today was another pitiful day for madelyn. she was very congested and even had puffy, watery eyes. she didn't have a fever though so i think she is just on the tail end of it. i am hoping that she is chipper enough for school tomorrow. she learned about doctors and nurses at school recently and has been saying that she didn't feel well since i picked her up that afternoon. i just thought that she was still pretending until she actually had a fever on friday. poor kid. at least it wasn't anything too serious. i think the worst of it has been the disrupted sleeping schedule. here's hoping for a better tomorrow. love.

we have an HD rain gauge, too :) Madelyn's illness sounds a lot like Lorelai - and in the same time frame. Today was her best day, but still stuffy. How many pins does Madelyn have now for her apron?
My kids made the rain gauge as well! Sorry to hear Maddie is sick, we'll be praying!
Snacks at church! So cool :)
