tuesday tip - hold your nose

while this may seem like a good tip in a lot of situations with little kids (ahem - riding in the car with a big poopie diaper), but it has proven to be a wonderful trick for picky eaters!  i had forgotten all about it but i had a flash back to my own days as a picky eater and recently remembered.  it has been amazing for turning off the fighting over what we are having for dinner.  madelyn loves it!  if she doesn't like what we are eating, she tries it.  if she still doesn't like it, she tries it with her nose plugged.  nine times out of ten she raves about how good it is and fills herself up - while holding her nose closed. she thinks it is like magic how she and pinch and release her nose to 'turn the taste on and off'.  it is like her attitude at dinner time has done a 180!  maybe it is because she isn't going to bed hungry any more...  love.

By the way, I never had the impression your kids (or Madelyn) were picky. I thought they ate everything you made, liked it, and also liked lots of healthy things.

maybe "picky" wasn't the right word. madelyn just complains a lot without trying dinner. it was getting really painful. once she tries something she generally likes it. for instance, if she sees me cutting onions for what I am making, she won't even try it. it won't matter that there is no onion flavor once cooked.
