before the whole lyme disease thing, my plan was to take madelyn out to lunch and then do some back to school shopping after our morning at the library. instead we went home for lunch with the boys and then went to the mall while manning was down for his long afternoon nap.
this was the first time i had gone shopping with madelyn, and maybe ever. we had no list or agenda. we were just browsing. if we saw something she liked, she tried it on. i was hoping to find something she would like to wear on the first day of school but didn't have to.
given how much she has an opinion about what she wear, i thought she would enjoy shopping more than she did. she just wasn't that interested in the clothes. we did end up with four headbands though. one of them is a tiara that lays flat instead of sticking up, so totally school appropriate.
we took an ice cream snack break -that part she liked |
there was a lot of crying about an owl wallet that i wouldn't buy her - a lot. it was ridiculously over priced and she has at least one wallet she never uses. there were also tears over this pink, sequined fedora. if she could have controlled her fit she might have gotten it (and honestly, i am probably going to go back and get it for christmas).
she asked me to take this picture of her |
we also talked about ways she could come up with money to buy things she wanted. we talked about selling old toys and madelyn suggested lemonade, but she didn't think enough people would be able to find her. always our logical girl.
she and I did find a short she loves for the first day (you will just have to wait). let's just say that she was hugging it in the store and wouldn't even consider other options. we also found a dress for day two (per madelyn).
madelyn told me that she doesn't like anything plain when I suggested a navy shirt with a bow to go with some bright pink polka dot jeans. by the way, "plain" includes jeans. I tried explaining that she could wear any color with jeans and lots of accessories but she wasn't totally sold on the idea.
we love our fashionista and i enjoyed shopping with her and hearing what she likes and why. i am looking forward to our next trip! love.

Maybe if she wears that pink hat the lemonade people will see her :) I bet she'll get in a lot of shopping over the years as the only girls - especially as she gets older and begins to like it. and like contributing to her style choices. BTW, do headbands actually stay in her hair? we have the hardest time with that here... always sliding out, immediately.
I never ealized that Maddie loves hats so much. She is so stylish! Reminds me of her mommy.
