rolling ball

our family fun day wasn't over yet. we swung by the house for a quick lunch and then headed over to a bowling alley where our church was hosting free bowling for the kids (and parents). none of the kids have been bowling before. although madelyn did remind me that they had been to watch matt bowl once. mason called it "rolling ball".

everybody excited to get their hands on a ball

you might notice that there is a ball still on its way to the pins behind madelyn. the bumpers were up but we hadn't asked for a ball ramp - we should have. the kids' balls took a long time to reach the pins and maddux even had one stop in the lane.
i love the body language of everyone after they released the ball. madelyn and maddux went 'granny' style but mason tried to swing his arm a little. and he did try kicking it once. that didn't work out so great. and maddux thought it looked like a good idea and gave it a try himself.
the biggest concern while we were bowling is keeping the kids from swarming the lane while someone else was having a turn. i encouraged cheering from our seats (mason was extremely cute fist pumping cheers for everyone - and, no, he doesn't know what fist pumping is that is just the best way to give you a visual). and then maddux wanted to play with the camera which worked for a while too.
maddux was scored a strike (one pin actually never fell) and madelyn got a spare in the last frame. she really wanted one because then there would be a graphic on the screen. it was like they knew her because her spare graphic had rainbows and stars.
and our final scores - madelyn, mason, maddux, matt and me - i won. love.
