mason has been asking for a bank for a while. he didn't get one for christmas and didn't get one for his birthday so i started looking. we aren't willing to spend much and i was actually having a hard time finding one (that wasn't too theme-y or babyish or expensive).
then it occurred to me - we could just make one!
we stared looking at the craft stores for a ready made one but, again, weren't having much luck. and then one night i was rinsing out a mayonnaise jar for recycling and it occurred to me that we could just use some food containers. (the obvious, i know.) i was going to wrap them in paper and do them up, but then decided that the boys would be much happier being able to see their money. instead i let them loose with sharpie markers (risky, i know) and draw on the outsides.

they were both quite pleased with the final products.
we decorated them out on the front deck while manning was napping. it was just a beautiful afternoon. we have been eating afternoon (and sometimes morning) snack outside and in the afternoons we can hear the high school band practicing. that has been the nice thing about madelyn riding the bus - our afternoons are so relaxed. we just hang out and play while manning naps and then when the bus comes we go and greet madelyn.
the boys each wanted to have their picture taken one more time. and, of course, i agreed. love.

That kind of see=through bank is the best. Love the happy faces.
Great idea to use the food containers... and they will love 'seeing' their money - will help them appreciate how much they have (or don't have)
