operation christmas child

i decided to skip out of the pto meeting and take the older two shopping for operation christmas child since matt was home and i had some time before my mops steering meeting.  they boys and i had watched some youtube videos earlier in the week to help them understand why we were making them and madelyn was pretty excited without the videos.

our plan was to make four boxes - one for each kid - and to fill them with items we already had and goodies from the dollar bins at michaels and target.  it was fun to shop with the older two and they gave the items a lot of thought.  it was great at their excitement in picking out gifts for others - although they got a few ideas for themselves too...

i wish i had taken pictures because they treated it like their shopping trip and carried everything in and out of the store (i just paid).  plus, madelyn had on a particularly great outfit - pink and orange fish short shorts with rainbow striped capri leggings under them (there was no pink or orange in the leggings), a pink tank top with a black studded long sleeved shirt under it, red socks, pink glitter shoes and a red/multi-colored glitter headband.  she got a few snickers in target (of the 'how cute' variety) but it took me a minute to realize it was her outfit and not them carrying the basket that caused them.  i am so used to her crazy outfits.

we are so blessed and matt and i really want the kids to understand generosity - especially at christmas.  what is your family's favorite act of generosity?  love.
