we didn't really see the need for a birthday party for maddux since he doesn't really have 'friends' yet and we don't have family around to come to a party (well, grandma happened to be here). but we did want to do something special - so we went to chuck e. cheese to celebrate. matt and i were not brave enough to attempt going on a saturday, so matt took today off from work and we signed madelyn out of school (we gave this point a lot of discussion and decided it was okay).
we hadn't told madelyn where we were going, just that we were going to sign her out for lunch (i wasn't even going to tell her that but she wanted to read the note i was sending to her teacher). all of the kids (and grandma) were super excited when we got there!

chuck e. cheese was busy but not crazy. we were very happy we went on friday instead of saturday. and manning slept the whole time which worked out well too. i think a good time was had by all and the kids loved their little 'treasures' that they picked out at the end. happy birthday, maddux! love.

Smart to go on Friday. I agree with no party necessary. This is always a point of contention for Jon and I. He thinks all should get parties every year. I do not. Plus, with three siblings, who needs more friends to play with. I'm sure maddux felt very special on his big day.
