bowling night

matt told us that he was bowling in a charity event for the hospital and that it might be fun for us all to come and watch.  i was a little doubtful about bringing all three kids to a bowling alley and keeping them entertained while they sat and watched daddy bowl, but figured that it was only for a few hours and they would probably do fine.

as we were getting ready to leave, matt suggested that we might drive separately in case i needed to leave earlier with the kids.  i told him that we should be able to make it long enough for him to finish.

daddy explaining to the kids about the ball return.
only it wasn't a charity event.  we were doing pretty well for the first two hours and maddux even fell asleep in the moby wrap.  but then he woke up and started to near melt down mode.  about 8:45 i told matt that we needed to go get in the van and drive around a little.  the plan was that the older two could watch a movie and i would drive around until maddux fell asleep and then come back to pick up matt when they were finished with the third game (or whatever the proper term for bowling is).

mason having a sip of my soda.  i can count on one hand the number of times he has even tasted soda, but it was so funny to see him with this amazingly large cup that i let him have some.  just one of many sugar sources that kept the older two energetically bouncing along past bedtime.
what matt had assumed was a charity event when he signed up (he has participated in bowl-a-thons at past hospitals) turned out to be a bowling tournament for employees.  when we came back to pick matt us (maddux had still not fallen asleep and was crying pretty loudly now) he came out to say that his team was advancing to the next round and he would be able to get a ride home from his assistant.  so i took the kids home and got everyone in bed sometime between 10 and 10:30pm.  around 11pm matt called to say that they had again made the cut for the next round and said that i could go to sleep but to keep my phone close (he didn't have any way to get into the apartment when he got home).

in the end, he bowled 6 games (i think that was the total) and got home some time after 1am.  he was so sore and tired by the time he got home.  it wasn't what he had in mind either.  oh well.  the kids still had fun.  love.

They came in third. He said that they could barely bowl by the time they got to the last round. He even got a blister on his pinky finger of all places.

I wasn't happy and watching him bowl was boring once the older two went and sat down with the bowlers and I was just sitting at a table by myself with a sleeping infant straped to my chest. I felt like I was getting a lot of "mom-of-the-year" nominations from the looks I was getting. I chose to look at it like I was glad that he wanted us there and he really didn't know.
