spring concert

madelyn's class put on a 'spring fling concert program' tonight.  we weren't quite sure what the night would entail, but we knew that there would be singing.

i had asked madelyn's teacher what she should wear and she said that madelyn could wear what ever she liked (oh, you mean like every other day?).  the outfit was tame by madelyn's standards, but still colorful.  i did try to direct some of her choices to make it pseudo appropriate, but she made all of the final selections.  she wore a turtleneck, striped dress (one of her favorites) that is too short, so she put a denim skirt under it.  then she selected knee-high, multi-color, heart patterned socks, and her blue and orange rain boots to finish off her outfit.

madelyn had been talking about how she was going to sing "really, really, really loud" at the concert so that she could get a prize.  i asked her if she was going to sing really well and she said, "no, just really loud."  and she did.  here are videos of most of the concert and you will notice that you can hear madelyn just fine.  sometimes she would forget to do the motions because she was so focused on the singing.
mason picked out his outfit too.  he takes after madelyn that way.  he was pretty excited to be at the concert and behaved excellently.  i don't think he moved the entire time they were singing.
my video for the first song is a very large file, so i had trouble uploading it.  here are the words (because i thought that it was cute) to the tune of "where is thumbkin?"

God the Father, God the Father,
God the Son, God the Son,
God the Holy Spirit, God the Holy Spirit,
Three in One, Three in One.

here is the end of the "abc song" and the "God made" prayer:
the b-i-b-l-e song with props.

i think that this is where i realized that madelyn was the loudest (sometimes only) one singing - where is "thumbkin".  (it gets a little awkward when they get to the middle finger and some of the kids were just standing there flicking everyone off.)
matt caught her eye about half-way through this one to remind her to touch her "head, shoulders, knees, and toes".  she is much, much more accurate at home.  she couldn't be bothered with motions that distracted from her singing.
this one is called "wave your hands in the air".
it was so funny when the kids were excused to go sit with their families because you just heard, "i am so proud" and "you did such a great job" over and over all over the room.

after the closing prayer and comments, refreshments were served.  mason was so into it that he bit off a chunk of the styrofoam cup!  one of the other moms noticed that he had it in his mouth and helped him for us (we were talking with a dad matt knew).

everyone kept coming up and telling us what a great job madelyn did (with a laugh).  both of her teachers came over to tell us that she was the "leader" in the middle because she was the only one who would sing all of the words loud enough that they didn't have to sing to keep things going.

we enjoyed the evening so much and were thrilled to see her so comfortable and confident in front of a room of strangers.  love.

Thanks so much for sharing. It was just like we were there. Madelyn is definitely a leader and so confident in what she does. I can only imagine how proud you were while watching her. Love the picture of the two of you!

Thanks for the video and pictures. You take great pictures Michelle (I'm speaking of the one with you and Madelyn). It is so great that she was focused on singing and doing her best b/c we can hear her!! :) What a great job! Tell her Nana and Papa are so proud of her and so glad that we got to hear her.

Oh, my! That was adorable. Her voice definitely rose above the rest. I love that she said she was going to sing 'loud' not 'well' - she was doing what her teachers asked. So fun to watch!
