mismatch day

madelyn (and mason) love a themed day at school. today was "mismatch day" for madelyn. last night at dinner we were trying to ask her what she was going to wear. mainly we were curious if she would think it was any different than how she normally dresses. i suggested that maybe i could help her put together her outfit after dinner so that she wouldn't have to do it in the morning. madelyn said that someone at school had suggested she wear some of her brother's clothes and she was excited about that idea. she asked mason if it was okay to wear one of his shirts and he agreed.
here is what we came up with: a dressy pink plaid skirt, a purple and grey striped snowman shirt, a plaid shirt of mason's (she was very selective about which shirt of mason's she wanted to borrow), two different knee high socks, hair half-up and half-down (her idea) and two different tennis shoes - one with laces and one with velcro.
and since one had laces, madelyn was waiting for me to tie it. since i was busy with mason's she asked me to tell her again how to do it (i had shown her how one time about a month ago). and she tied it on her first try! i was so proud of her and you can tell she is pretty proud of herself too.

it turned in to a very exciting day for madelyn! and i missed another photo opportunity because mason chose to wear two different shoes just like madelyn. (on a side note, he has been calling her "madelyn" instead of just "mads" and she is very excited that he calls her by her name now.)

while madelyn and mason were at school maddux had a play date with the little girl across the street. she is about one month older than him and an only child. i meant to take a picture of them together but we were painting and it is best not to look away for even a second. they were very cute sharing the paint and helping each other. it must have worn him out because he fell asleep on the way home from picking up mason and slept for about two hours. normally, i would not have let him sleep so long but tonight i am attempting to finally get his 2 year pictures (and manning's 6 month and a group shot since i have to bring everyone any way). love.
