cabin fever

the zoo does "cabin fever" events every saturday in the month of january to try and get people out to the zoo in the cold. what they didn't count on was a 60 degree saturday in january! to say it was crowded would be an understatement! we waited in line to get in when the zoo opened. we did one craft on the way in and one on the way out. the kids were pretty excited about the whole thing because we haven't been in a while and because daddy was there with us.
madelyn was cold after choosing to not even bring a jacket. lucky for her daddy shared his.
there is a lot of construction at the zoo right now due to a new exhibit that is set to open later this year (i think) so the theme was construction. the kids started out by building marshmallow and toothpick houses.
after the houses we picked up some free hot chocolate and headed out into the zoo. the kids were just glad to be outside running around and it made me that much happier that we came. manning was cracking up watching (or trying to watch) them running all over the place. he was kicking his legs along in support.
on the way out after lunch the kids waited in line to make paper tool belts. the poor ladies were cutting out all of the tool shapes by hand. again - i don't think that they were prepared for so many families today! but the ladies all had a great attitude and were happy that so many people were enjoying the zoo.
manning dozed a little while we were there but for the most part he was awake and loving it. he really likes being out of the carrier. i mostly like it but it can be a little tricky sometimes until they can stand on their own (like using a public bathroom when we don't have a stroller with us). fun family day. love.

Do just flat out carry him sometimes? Like when no carrier or stroller? What a wonderful family day and - outside- even better!

Only into school for pick-up or other times it is just a quick in and out. The bathroom thing becomes a problem in stores where he would have been riding in a cart.

Love all the pictures and how funny is it that when it's 60 degrees here, we are all bundled up and you think it's a warm day.
