the closest thing to an open house...

so this is, apparently, the closest madelyn will get to an open house.  she is looking at the class postings on the outside of the school to find out who her teacher will be and who she might know in her class (it is not mailed or posted online, you have to go to the school).  and then we will take her on the first day and are still not be allowed back to her classroom.  we have to wait a few weeks for parent/teacher conference night before we get to meet her teacher!  it just seems crazy!  i just can't believe that i have to send her to spend 8 hours a day with someone i couldn't even pick out on the street.  i do not like this one bit.

i guess they only have open house for kindergarten around here.  she won't even have an open house night when she changes schools for third grade.

unfortunately, all of her closest friends are not in her class.  in fact, of the few kids in her class she knows, two of them are the ones who made her cry last year because of unkind things being said.  oh well.  i have decided that it is better to learn how to cope with 'mean' kids now than when she is older.  at least that is what i am telling myself.  on the plus side, i think, hers is the smallest of the first grade classes with 23 students.  the mix is way more boys than girls but she is used to having more boys around so it isn't that big of a deal.

anyway.  she is still pretty excited about school starting.  she says that she knows who her teacher is and saw her a few times last year. at least she isn't too upset about not getting to meet her first.  she was a little concerned about not knowing where her classroom is, but i assured her that there would be people there to help her find her room.

so there you go.  love.

That's a little stressful. We find out Erik's kindergarten teacher tomorrow. Only one pre-k teacher at the school so we already know her (don't love her but are very familiar at least). The kids start school Wednesday here. They do have an open house for 2 hours for 1st-5th grade, kindergarten is separate. Beyond that the school is locked down like Fort Knox. You're not allowed in the school for any reason unless you are an approved volunteer (which means you took a class). It's for safety reasons which is good but does make me nervous too, to have such limited access. I hope it goes well for Madelyn.

Aw, that makes me sad. For you and for her. There's something about meeting your teacher ahead of the first day that seems comforting. Why do they not have open house for upper grades? I'm sure its stressful for you as well. I"m sure it will be fine, though. Are the teacher's pictures posted on their website at least?

Maybe Madelyn will be with some of her friends at recess? At my old school the class level all had recess together. It is nice that she is in the smaller class, hopefully not smaller b/c of some little stinkers in it :) That does happen sometimes. We will say our prayers for a wonderful school year for Madelyn. I hope she loves her teacher. AND I still can't believe they don't have a meet the teacher time for children and parents a night or two b/f school starts. I wonder if it has always been that way. Schools are certainly concerned about security, rightly so I guess. Sad!
