the negotiator

so yesterday madelyn lost another tooth (maybe number 8?).  she wanted to save it to show sarah today so we didn't do anything with it last night.  since we don't do 'the tooth fairy' here it isn't really that big of a deal when she gets paid.

when we decided to opt-out of all the imaginary people (tooth fairy, santa, easter bunny, etc.) we were a little worried that we were taking some fun away.  oh, no, that is not even close to true!  in fact, i think madelyn enjoys every thing more!

we aren't that consistent with what we pay for teeth - a dollar, one of each coin.  we let madelyn choose if she wants the surprise of a nighttime exchange under her pillow or to just give us the tooth and get her money.  she often chooses a nighttime exchange to see if she can catch daddy or just to have a surprise in the morning.  there has been at least once where daddy forgot to make the switch (thankfully, madelyn forgot that time too) so tonight madelyn was feeling like negotiating.

she announced at dinner that she would like two dollars for her tooth.  we really just laughed and said that the tooth fairy doesn't go higher than one dollar.  to which she replied, well there isn't a tooth fairy, there's daddy.  true, mads, very true.

when daddy got home madelyn told him about the price for this tooth.  he too laughed and i told him about her earlier comment about there not being a tooth fairy.  i guess somewhere along the getting ready for bed process she and daddy discussed this more and daddy must have said that he might forget.  concerned that he might forget she reminded him before going into her room.  and then she got to thinking and came back out to "talk to daddy".

i guess her deal was that if he would give her two dollars and a quarter, he could have the tooth now and not have to worry about remembering.  sold.  daddy thought that was a fair price for one less thing to think about.  smart girl.  love.
