egg hunt

while we are still church hunting near where our house will be, we have been most regularly attending a church close to the apartment.  i go to the moms' group with the boys and we attend most weekends.  today we went over for their annual egg hunt.

the morning was very wet and the egg hunt had been moved indoors, but i think that it worked out pretty well and the kids had a great time. there were lots of activities - face painting, crafts, inflatables. and snacks - bunny fruit snacks, caprisun drinks, small bottled water, and cotton candy.

madelyn wanted to hit up the face painting first and mason was game too.  they had the perfect method for mason - a face stamp - quick.  he got a blue bunny and madelyn got bunny nose and whiskers with a red flower stamped on her cheek.  mason has also just learned how to 'smile' for the camera and i love it!  he says "cheeeeeese" and tries to hold still long enough  for me to take the picture.

i wore maddux in the moby wrap.  it has been a while since i have carried him this way and he is very, very heavy now!  it was just easier than a stroller, even when he is so heavy.  and the nice part is that he goes to sleep very easy in it.  a lot of people comment on him when he falls asleep because i can't see his face and they think that it is so funny to see him passed out in the wrap.

they did the egg 'hunts' in age categories. mason got to go first with the 1-2 year olds (much to madelyn's dismay at waiting).  there were more parents than kids and matt and i were not able to stay with him (or even see him) for most of the time.  he did better than i thought he would.  at least until he realized that there was candy inside the eggs.  and then he spent the rest of the time trying to put the empty eggs back together.  he enjoyed himself and liked carrying his bucket (or regular easter baskets are in storage).  here is some video of his 'hunt':

and then we waited for madelyn's age group in a better starting spot.  i love how she picks up a few eggs from each pile before moving on to the next instead of taking all of the ones within her reach.  and how she hurries but doesn't race.  she is easy to spot in her solid red outfit (her favorite color).

and here are the kids with their spoils.  i just love this picture of mason with his "cheeeese" smile and bucket of eggs.  love.

I bet the inside egg hunt was a better venue. I love that Madelyn is so loyal to red.
