dig, baby, dig!

so it's official.  we closed on our construction loan today and they dig the hole tomorrow morning.  we went out this past weekend and saw the port-a-potty - a sure sign of construction.  well, we were really there to check out that the steaks for the house were situated properly.  and they were.  our soon to be neighbors came over to find out how the house was going to be orientated on the lot.  we have met them before and they are very nice.  i guess the neighbors were discussing it during book club (yes, i am super stoked that there is a neighborhood book club) and were wondering what our street address would be - since we are on the corner.

any way, the plan is for me to take the kids out tomorrow afternoon to see the trucks digging and then we will go back out over the weekend so that matt can check things out.  we were also informed that there is a neighborhood get-together and that we should join in the fun to meet some more neighbors.  we actually might.  i really need to find out about the preschools (we were too late and madelyn was too young for soccer at the ymca this year) so that i can get them enrolled for january.

here are some pictures and details on our plans.
matt standing on our 'front porch' next to the 'front door'.

the exterior plans.  the siding will be two different shades of grey (one horizontal and one vertical), the roof is black, and the trim and garage doors are white.

our exterior stone

floor plan.  we worked with an existing plan. so it wasn't my idea to have a closet the size of a small bedroom, but i will have to live with it...
here are some of the renderings of the kitchen.  the cabinets we picked are the 'slab' style in an espresso finish (we wanted black, but this is as close as we could get).  everyone has been giving me grief about having two dishwashers, but we think that it is practical for our life and the number of kids we are hypothetically going to have (4).  plus, we can pull one out and replace it with a wine fridge someday.  here are some of the renderings from the cabinet company.  we are still working on some of the details, like hardware and exact appliances, but this is pretty much it.

we have also picked out flooring, but i didn't take any pictures.  i will try to remember when we take the flooring samples for picking counters in the next week or two.  we have selected a natural hickory for the majority of the house.  so that is the update.  the kids are beyond excited about seeing the trucks at the lot tomorrow!  hopefully, i will get some good pictures.  love.

ooh la la. how exciting! Is it a ranch style? with finished basement? It was a little hard to read the floor plan... what is the room in the front - in front of laundry and garage? I love the layout of the kids' rooms/bathrooms- with the WIC across from the sinks. It will be so much fun to watch this evolve - kind of like following a pregnancy. Hard to believe it will be complete in just a few months!

how many ovens will you have?

it is a ranch, but the basement will be a future project. we have the plans, just not the money. :) the mystery room is a 'mud room' and will have 6 built in 'lockers'. 'lockers' are like cubbies with hooks and are pretty common here. this is something we have always wanted and are pretty excited about.

it is going to go by really, really fast! the house will be complete in august, but we are still up in the air about when we are going to move in since we have the lease on the apartment until december. the builder is planning on renting it back from us as a model through october, but we are going to see if the apartment complex will let us out of our lease so that they can have our 3-bedroom to rent out. so we will see. the goal is to be in by november 10 - maddux' first birthday and matt and my 10th wedding anniversary.

right now, i am looking at a double oven range and a speed-cooker type wall oven combo deal (instead of a microwave). we are still trying to figure this part out. i have until they complete the framing to make my final decision.

I can see why you'd want to make a response to a comment of this nature in the comment section itself because others are sure to have similar questions about the house and you don't want to have to send a hundred same email responses. Maybe you'll only need to do it for house related posts???

Congrats! How fun! I think the double dishwasher is a great idea. The mudroom with lockers is awesome! If we ever move/build again I will have to remember that idea!

Thanks for supporting the double dishwashers @our family. Our builder still laughs at me a little. We have long wanted a mudroom and wish we would have known that we could alter the plans in our WI house to have one. But here they are sort of standard and we are pretty excited about it.
