but wait...

daddy got home safely last night - a little delayed - and the kids racing to see him in the airport was a great reward for him having been gone.  even an employee walking by as they greeted him said that we should have had that on video.  poor matt didn't get to unwind after his flight though.  i had a list to rattle off to him as we took the kids home to get them into bed.  welcome home, daddy!

today was madelyn's christmas/holiday party at school.  because i asked if "snacks" meant healthy or sweets, i was signed up for a "healthy" snack.  we made a rainbow fruit pizza - one of madelyn's favorites.  it is a little bit of a stretch for actually being healthy but it would work.  afraid that they wouldn't be able to cut it at school, i sent her with a pizza wheel and pie server.  anyone having the thought that didn't come to me until after dropping her off?  yep.  i just sent her to school with 'knives'!!!  i didn't have time to go back because i needed to drop mason off.  i thought about calling but didn't want to draw attention to it.  so off we went to drop off mason and run some errands while i waited for a call from the school.  the call never came and when i asked madelyn about it when she got home she realized she forgot to ever give them to her teacher.  okay.  i guess that was a good thing.  whew!

i was able to run all of my errands before the rain started (it actually started falling after i got everyone back into the van after a quick stop at the grocery store (for more cookie supplies to finish up my portion of a cookie exchange tonight).  since it wasn't too cold yet, i let the boys play in the rain a little while we waited for madelyn's bus.  maddux wasn't willing to actually go out in the rain, but liked having his umbrella.

as madelyn was getting off the bus, i saw her driver talking to her and then heard her say "merry christmas".  my heart skipped a little as i had a quick thought about maybe having the last day of school wrong.  no, i couldn't be wrong because i had checked the calendars for her and mason; we were sending christmas gifts tomorrow.  once we were all settled into an afternoon snack, madelyn asked if today was the last day of school.  why?  oh, some kids were saying that today was the last day.  maybe they are going to miss tomorrow for traveling or something.  but i quickly headed off to our office to check all the notes, newsletters and calendars.  there was nothing about there being no school on friday.  and then i thought of the one place that would be clear and that i wouldn't normally look at - the cafeteria menu calendar!  friday, december 21 - blank.  oh.  no.  we missed the last day of school!!!!  after a post to facebook about my panic, i called the school to confirm that this was the case.  that is correct, no school tomorrow.  no, i was not the first parent to call about the confusion.  no, teachers would not be at school tomorrow.  so bummed.  i had baked cookies last night, we had been working on crafts for weeks and now i had gotten the dates wrong.  what was most upsetting is that everything was ready to go with her today but i thought we would just wait since she had to carry the fruit pizza and didn't need anything else to mess with. oh well.  at least mason's teacher's would get their gifts tomorrow (because he definitely had school).

you can bet that i am not going to make this same mistake next year!  i will probably send gifts monday of the last week - after confirming a few times that there is school.  love.

Do they have a web site with a school calendar?? Teachers will appreciate them when school starts up.

yes, they have a web calendar but i never check it except for long term planning because i get so, so many papers home with the weekly calendar of events. even the newsletter from the principal on thursday made no mention of it being the last day of school.
