no, manning didn't age five years, but he was the first one up so he got to dig into madelyn's birthday breakfast - plain bagels and cereal - first. he was in a really exceptional mood too. we needed to get a pretty early start to get to madelyn's surprise birthday outing so we had to wake the big kids up. they have been camping out in the boys' room in the hopes that it might help the boys sleep through the night by having madelyn there too. it has had mixed results but everyone slept all week thanks to vbs, so maybe we will be back to four kids sleeping through the night.
anyway, back to the birthday girl! she slept on our "happy birthday" pillowcase thanks to some special friends. then she hid in the sleeping bag when i sang "happy birthday" to her (and, no, it wasn't my singing). i missed her yelling, "i am a six-year-old!!" because i had gone back to the kitchen to finish packing up our lunch.
